Mars Inc. Turkey has decided to recall a selected group of chocolate bars sold in the country following news reports that the products posed a choking risk after a piece of plastic was found in a Snickers bar in Germany, the office said on Thursday.

In a written statement Mars said three different types of chocolate bars would be pulled out of the Turkish market. The company called on customers to avoid consuming the bars, about which it said it is “deeply sorry for the inconvenience.” The company’s Turkey office said the recall process only covered Snickers bars produced at a Dutch factory in Veghel, adding that “other products are safe.”

On Tuesday Mars Inc. said it has recalled products, which include Mars, Snickers and Milky Way bars, in 55 countries, mainly in Europe. The recall, in effect since Monday, followed a Jan. 8 complaint from a consumer in Germany who found red plastic in a Snickers bar and sent it back to the company.

“We cannot be sure that this plastic was only in that particular Snickers,” a spokeswoman from Mars Netherlands said on Monday. “We do not want any products on the market that may not meet our quality requirements, so we decided to take them all back.”
